Prokhorov to Work With Luzhkov Ahead of Mayoral Vote

Billionaire businessman and Civil Platform party head Mikhail Prokhorov has announced plans to work with former Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov in upcoming city elections, a news report said Monday.

"Last Saturday, I met with Yury Luzhkov. We had a two-hour-long conversation during which we discussed plans for summer," Prokhorov said, according to Interfax.

The billionaire added that the meeting had given him high hopes for fruitful cooperation with Luzhkov, who was mayor from 1992 to 2010, when he was fired by then-President Dmitry Medvedev for “lack of confidence” in his abilities.

Prokhorov declined to give further details on any possible collaboration, Interfax reported.

Earlier, Prokhorov announced that Civil Platform would introduce the party's candidate for mayoral elections at a press conference on June 14.

This year will see the capital's first direct mayoral elections in a decade, following the decision by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin to resign and run for the post again in a snap election on Sept. 8.
